What can be configured?
Anything where one choice limits another — hardware, furniture, vehicles, print, B2B bundles. If the rule can be written down, it can be enforced.
Can my team change the rules later?
That's decided in the design phase. Most clients want rules as data their team can edit, and we build it that way unless there's a reason not to.
Does it work with my existing store?
Often. A configurator can sit on top of Shopify or a custom store, or run its own checkout. Which fits is part of the design.
